JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two house fires overnight were sparked after used fireworks were left in trash cans near the homes, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
A third fire that was reported just before 2 a.m. on Monday at The Element at River Pointe apartments on Harts Road left one person with critical injuries. The Red Cross is helping three family members displaced by that Northside fire.
JFRD said the cause of the apartment fire is not known, but it did not involve fireworks. A charred stove was seen Monday morning along the sidewalk near the apartment unit.
The two fireworks-related fires happened about three hours apart on opposite sides of town overnight.
Just before midnight, a fire was reported on Aquarius Circle West in the Holiday Hill area of the Southside, and just before 3 a.m., another fire was reported on Helmsley Boulevard in the Cisco Gardens area of the Westside.
A neighbor shared photos with News4JAX of the damage left by the Aquarius Circle fire, which was also captured in a video shared on TikTok:
