4-year-old killed in Arlington crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 4-year-old has been killed following a crash on Merrill Road Saturday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police are still searching for a “light-colored” sedan that was involved in the crash that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. in the 6800 block of Merrill Road.

Police said a silver SUV was heading westbound on Merrill Road in the right lane when the sedan changed lanes, crashing into the silver SUV forcing it off the roadway. The SUV hit a wooden telephone pole and the driver and child were taken to a local hospital by the Jacksonville Fire & Rescue Department. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to JSO.

The light-colored sedan fled the scene and has not reported the crash to the sheriff’s office.

This is the 16th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, JSO said.

Anyone with information about the light-colored sedan, which will likely have damage to its passenger side doors, is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office at (904)630-0500 or call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
