Analyzing the political storm around Trump’s hush money trial

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The first of former President Donald Trump’s four criminal prosecutions begins Monday with jury selection in New York.

The trial is focused on hush money payments to cover up a sex scandal during the 2016 election.

The case is historic in that it is the first time a former president is being tried on criminal charges and the first time that if convicted a former president could face jail time.

It is a case with few precedents amid a political maelstrom.

In the middle of that storm is Manhattan’s first Black District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, who is prosecuting the case.

He says he’s apolitical and compares his prosecution of this case to that of any other financial crime. Yet, Bragg is at the center of that political storm as well.

News4JAX political analyst and head of the JU Public Policy Institute Rick Mullaney sat down on The Morning Show to analyze the political storm.
