White is accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars in real estate investments. More than 50 police reports have been filed against her.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Their numbers are now cut down to just two people, but there are still signs being waived outside city hall calling for the arrest of Janay White. They say they’re representing hundreds of victims.
White is accused of taking tens of thousands of dollars in real estate investments and mentorship programs from clients both locally and out of state. More than 50 police reports has been filed against White for bad business practices. Some of the victims are organizing and vehemently standing up against White, calling for her arrest.
Ashley “Buddy” Wilson is one of those people. He created a Facebook group called ‘JANAY WHITE PONZI SCHEME’ which has 3,600 members. He’s asking that anyone who has been “scammed” by White band together with the others in the group.
Members of the group have talked about being defrauded by White, claiming they gave her thousands of dollars to invest with no returns.
Wilson was outside of the Duval County Courthouse Thursday afternoon with a sign that said ‘NO ARREST, WE PROTEST.’
Holding his sign, Wilson told First Coast News he is trying to help the community and others who were harmed by White.
He’s accusing her of sending him “false documents” as part of a real estate scheme. “Janay has been completely unprofessional, has not lived up to anything that she said she would, she has not been there for the community. And she definitely stole from me — $56,000. And then lie to me about everything.”
Wilson was joined by Raven Griffin-Bright, who said Janay scammed her out of over $10,000. Her sign said “Arrest Janay White,” and “Over $1.5 million stolen from 100+ families.”
She said she spent $22,000 on a real estate mentorship program, which led to her losing around half the money. She says White had “no business” doing the program: “She’s unlicensed, she did not have experience. And a lot of people in that program ended up losing properties, losing money, ruining their credit over false hopes, the wishes of things that she had no ability to make come to fruition.”
She has taken legal action against White and says her lawyer and White’s lawyers are still negotiating. At least one other victim is suing White.
She believes over 80 people have filed police reports against White. She says some of them will join a civil suit.
As for criminal charges, there is no warrant for Janay White’s arrest in this case. A statement from the State Attorney’s Office reads:
“As with inquiries of this nature, we can neither confirm nor deny the presence of an investigation. However, anyone who believes they are a victim should contact JSO’s Economic Crimes Unit to file a police report and maintain all their financial records and documents pertaining to their interactions with Ms. White and/or her companies.”
First Coast News reached out to Janay White and she declined to comment.
She has recently opened a new credit office on Jacksonville’s Southside.
