City announces “Get Covered Jax”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The city of Jacksonville announced Thursday morning, a “health care for all” initiative to help uninsured people in Jacksonville.

The announcement was made at a press conference and is where Mayor Donna Deegan and other city officials introduced “Get Covered Jax.”

Deegan says the plan is aimed at helping people who cannot afford health care and are using the emergency room as their primary form of care.

“We have a whole population of people that are using the emergency room as their primary care, that’s the big issue in terms of costs and what we can do to really move that dial,” Deegan said.

Open enrollment for the Florida Health Insurance Market runs from Nov. 1 through Jan. 15, 2024.

To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the country, reside in the state in which your marketplace is located and must not be currently incarcerated.
