Cold Night Shelters open throughout Jacksonville

The Cold Night Shelter is open Friday night until Sunday morning.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The temperatures are dropping and Sulzbacher Cold Night Shelter is open through Sunday morning.

Sulzbacher opens the Cold Night Shelter when temperatures are expected to drop below 40 degrees. This is a service for anyone homeless or in need to keep safe from the weather conditions.

“We have a hot meal for them,” Chief Development Officer Eileen Seuter said. “We serve them breakfast as well and they can also interact with our staff and learn about the other services that we have.”

Temporary sleeping areas in dining rooms and library areas are open at both the downtown campus and Sulzbacher Village. Chief Development Officer Eileen Seuter says anyone with a compromised immune system should seek shelter.

“For people who have a compromised immune system for people who have, you know, chronic health conditions, being out in that type of a temperature can really be harmful to their health,” Seuter said.

Seuter says about 30 to 40 people choose to seek shelter on a cold night.

“There’s still a lot of people that are on the streets homeless and we don’t want them out in these dangerous temperatures,” Seuter said.

Men can seek shelter at the downtown facility and women and children can seek shelter at Sulzbacher Village on Springfield Boulevard through Sunday morning.
