Austin Gayne was a tow truck driver who would work between Orlando and Jacksonville and he was hit by a driver in 2021 while working. He died about a month later in the hospital.

Carnue Mcinarnai works in the tow truck industry and she said she wanted to be involved in the event because of the dangers tow truck drivers and first responders face when they’re stopped on a road to help someone else.

“We’re trying to spread awareness… If you see somebody move over. That’s somebody’s family, somebody loves them and we want to bring them home,” Mcinarnai said.

She said she’s also passionate about the topic because, in the 90s, she was hit by a driver while on the side of the road. As a result, her leg had to be amputated.

Gayne’s family and the people who attended the event hope his story and others who died similarly force people to follow the law and move over a lane for a stopped vehicle.
