JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Duval County School District is taking action to decrease bus delays that have plagued the district for years.
Two bus companies are contracted with the district, and as of next school year 220 bus routes will be transferred from Student Transportation of American, to Durham School services.
The move will impact students living around Fletcher, Sandalwood, and Terry Parker High Schools.
Leaders with Durham are confident they be able to fill driver positions by offering better pay and training courses for potential drivers.
“We’ll work to retain all the current great drivers, right. All those people that are doing service right now is our first step,” John Ziegler, the Director of Business Development for Durham School services said. “And then, you know, we we’ve already started the process of hiring new people. And that process starts today”
Durham leaders say they have already ordered 10 news buses to handle the additional routes.
