Making sure your child gets the education based on their zip code, is a thing in the past for Duval County. ‘School Showcase Saturdays!’ will begin Jan. 27.
DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Now’s the time to start planning ahead for the next school year. Duval County Public Schools says if you’re interested in having your child enroll at a specific school, then you should attend ‘School Showcase Saturdays!,’ an event the school district is having beginning next Saturday.
Starting next week, you and your child can tour schools that you’re interested in. Up first, are middle and high school students on Jan. 27.
Families are invited to meet school leaders and staff, as this will present the opportunity for questions to be asked and answered.
Elementary school tours will be available the following week. DCPS says you’ll have 197 schools to choose from. Making sure your child gets the education based on their zip code, is a thing in the past for Duval County.
“Instead of having to figure out, ‘I work on the Westside, but I live at the Beaches, [and] if my child is sick, how do I get there in enough time?’ so, I would like to be able to choose something that’s near me, but also fits what my child needs,” Director of School Choice at DCPS Jacqueline Kelley told First Coast News.
Parents and guardians have until Feb. 29 to submit an application, but don’t wait too long. DCPS says it takes three days to activate your account.
