FHP-involved shooter on State Road A1A in Flagler County

FHP said a state trooper initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle, but the driver fled the scene. After a pursuit, the trooper fired at the driver, striking them.

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — A person is in the hospital after a shooting involving a Florida Highway Patrol trooper on State Road A1A Wednesday night, according to FHP.

FHP said the state trooper initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle, but the driver fled the scene.

The trooper followed the fleeing vehicle and fired shots at the suspect during the pursuit. 

The driver was shot and taken to the hospital. The driver’s condition is unknown at this time. 

The trooper was not injured in the incident, according to FHP.

Troopers said there is no threat to the public at this time. 

Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to assist with security and traffic control.

The incident shut down SR-A1A as investigators cleared the scene. 

However, all roads are back open.
