JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A well-known home improvement retailer could soon breathe some life into a Mandarin Kmart that shuttered in 2016.
According to the St. Johns Water Management District, Home Depot has filed a environmental resource permit with the agency Thursday for the property at 9600 San Jose Blvd.
Plans call demolition of the current building and the construction of a 106,000 square foot building with a more than 25,000-square-foot garden center. With exterior electrical and vestibules, the total square footage is 133, 123 square feet.
The consultant listed is Jacksonville-based Kimley-Horn. The owner of the property is Ash Properties via the LLC ONOUDIDNT Inc.
The Kmart was developed in 1979, property records show.
In September 2019, Sun-Ray Cinema announced plans for the site, with a plan consisting of five screens. The Jacksonville Daily Record reported that a lease was not signed.
