Jacksonville hair salon employees use their talents to raise money for Hamburger Mary’s after devastating fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hair stylists at a local salon used their talents Sunday morning to help raise money for Hamburger Mary’s after the restaurant experienced a devastating fire nearly two weeks ago.

Stylists like Antonio Geiovan at Atelier Salon on San Jose Boulevard had what they called a “cut-a-thon.” All the money collected is going to Hamburger Mary’s employees.

Geoivan said many of Hamburger Mary’s employees are his clients.

“Once all of this happened, I immediately was like, ‘Okay, people are out of work. People might not be able to pay their bills. They don’t know what they are going to do,’” Geoivan said.

Customers like Lyla Palompo pay a minimum of $25 in cash to be donated to the restaurant.

“I just hope that they use it so they can repair their damages. If they need new equipment or anything to make the experience their better into support their company,” Palompo said.

The hair salon employees said that any amount they raise Sunday would be great. But the hope would be to at least get $1,000.

The fire at the restaurant happened on Oct. 12th about an hour after it closed for the night.

Owners said it was caused by an electrical issue.

They said included in the damage was losing memorabilia and letters people wrote them after they visited the restaurant since it opened in 2012.

That’s why these professionals at this salon want to step up and help the way they know how.

“This was so close to home for me because I go to Hamburger Mary’s every week and I spend time with everybody there, and I love them so much,” Geoivan said.

Geoivan said he wants to be there for them as they rebuild and restore.
