Jacksonville man shot and killed by relative on Northside

He leaves behind twin babies and he was engaged to be married.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A family shares grief five days after losing their loved one.

31-year-old Christopher Witherspoon was shot and killed on Poydras Lane on Jacksonville’s Northside Sunday.

His family says what makes the shooting so tragic is that another family member shot him.

Witherspoon, known as ‘Spoon’ had 4-month-old twins and he was engaged to be married. He loved his mother and siblings.

“We don’t have any information at this time and that is adding to the grief and it’s making the grief hard because we don’t have any answers at this time, so we are asking if anyone knows anything or heard anything… we know word travels so please speak up,” said Bria Odom, Witherspoon’s sister-in-law.

Witherspoon and his fiancée were together for ten years. They both attended Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

“The love he had for my sister and the love he had for those twins, they just had babies June 8th so they are only four months old,” said Odom.

Odom was with her sister on Sunday night when they got the call to get to Chris’ home on Poydras Lane due to an emergency.

“A million questions running through our minds of what was going on and what happened and if he were to have been shot… why were we going to the home and not the hospital,” said Odom.

Odom says when they got to Poydras Lane, they broke down.

Now, the family is asking for the community’s support as they lay their loved one to rest.

“We are not asking for anything big or small, just whatever helps, whatever is on your heart to do,” said Odom.

Detectives were at the home Friday where this happened outside. They were still investigating what led to the shooting.

The family’s GoFundMe is here for those who want to donate.
