Jacksonville native, Panthers LB Marquis Haynes returns to Charlotte after spending night in hospital for head injury

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Carolina Panthers linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. returned home to Charlotte on Monday after he spent Sunday night in a local hospital following a head injury he suffered in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Haynes, a 30-year-old Jacksonville native who played high school football at University Christian, was carted off the field in the third quarter with a concussion during Sunday’s game.

After a long delay, Haynes gave the crowd a thumbs-up sign as he was taken away.

He was taken to a hospital for further testing and did not fly home with the team. Haynes was transported to Baptist Medical Center and stayed overnight for testing.

The Panthers said he was released Monday afternoon and returned to North Carolina with a member of the Panthers’ athletic training staff.

He remains in the concussion protocol.
