JSO warns about dangers of trendy young people role-playing game that uses fake guns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office issued a warning Thursday about a potentially dangerous game that teenagers and younger adults are playing that could put them at risk.

The game is called Assassins, and it’s not to be confused with a video game. Instead, the sheriff’s office calls it a “social role-playing” game that’s become a recent trend across the nation. Players create teams and then use toy guns to assassinate the other team.

Police said the game could pose serious safety risks because of the “lengths that some go to in carrying out their” games.

Police worry that people may not interpret the toy gun as fake, causing them to react as if their life is in danger.

JSO is urging parents to talk to their kids about the serious consequences.

“We do not want young people in our community to be shot or killed participating in a role-playing game,” JSO said.
