Labelle Street, Pritmore Road shootings leave 1 dead, 1 injured

Both shootings happened within a span of two hours.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One person is dead, one is currently injured in critical condition, and another has been detained after two separate shootings in Jacksonville took place Tuesday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Both shootings happened within a span of two hours.

Westside shooting

At approximately 11:15 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Labelle Street in reference to a man who had been shot, according to JSO’s Sergeant Richardson.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he is in “critical but stable condition,” Richardson told First Coast News. Police did not release the identity of the man.

JSO’s initial investigation revealed that there was a knock at the front door of a home the man was in in the area, and when the man opened it, “an unknown individual fired a single shot in the direction of the victim striking him once in the abdomen,” police say.

The sheriff’s office says the unknown individual then fled the area in an unknown direction.

“It’s still early in the investigation and we have limited information at this time,” Richardson said. “Detectives responded to the scene, canvassed the area for video surveillance, and spoke with witnesses.”

Mandarin shooting

Shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to The Villas at Mandarin Bay apartment complex, located at 3857 Pritmore Rd., in reference to a shooting, JSO’s Sergeant Highfill told First Coast News.

When officers arrived, a man in his late teens/early 20s was found with multiple gunshot wounds, JSO says.

Highfill says two individuals were involved in “some sort of dispute” when one of them was shot. He says first responders with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived on scene to render life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the other person involved in the alleged dispute has been detained.

“Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit have responded and are conducting the investigation,” Highfill said. “At this time, we do not know the circumstances surrounding the dispute or the relationship of the persons involved. We will continue to investigate and coordinate our efforts with our partners at the Medical Examiner’s Office and State Attorney’s Office.”

JSO says they believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no additional threat to the community.

The sheriff’s office did not release the identity of those involved in this incident either. However, Highfill says the other individual involved in the dispute is a man.

Anyone with information on either shootings is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
