PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Some Putnam County residents may be asked to evacuate their homes Saturday night after a major natural gas leak in East Palatka prompted first responders to evaluate the immediate area.
An evacuation for residents in the immediate area of the gas leak “may be deemed appropriate” after further evaluation, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
PCSO said the vehicle involved struck a building and hit a main gas line.
The crash happened at 123 Putnam County Blvd. and police are encouraging drivers to avoid the area.
The fire chief of the Putnam County Fire Rescue Local 3529 is on scene, along with several other units.
Members of the State Warning Point and Emergency Management have been notified of the incident, according to PCFR Local 3529. Officials also requested assistance from Palatka Gas Authority and FPL.
This is a developing story.
