Man accused of using stolen car to commit 4 robberies across Jacksonville pleads not guilty

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man accused of being responsible for a string of robberies across Jacksonville appeared before a judge Thursday morning and pleaded not guilty to four counts of robbery, car theft and aggravated fleeing from police.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said Robert Herrington, 42, was behind four robberies from Tuesday, Nov. 7, to Saturday, Nov. 11, and one of them ended in a dramatic car crash that led to his arrest.

Police said an officer spotted a stolen Saturn Aura believed to be connected to multiple robberies, and when Herrington noticed he was spotted, he sped away, flying through a stop sign and turning onto Highway Avenue.

Police said Herrington approached a red light at the intersection of Cassat and Highway Avenues and sped around traffic into the oncoming lane to run the red light. Herrington ran into a JTA bus and then continued through the intersection, where he hit a pickup truck and a parked car, police said. He was arrested after being taken to a hospital.

The Saturn Aura was reported stolen on Nov. 9, police said.

According to Herrington’s arrest report, the first robbery was at a Domino’s Pizza on Starratt Drive, and the next day, Herrington stole $2,800 from a Regions Bank on Busch Drive.

Police said Herrington then held up the Financial Credit Union on Revell Drive, taking $1,100 after handing the teller a note demanding money. The police chase and crash followed a robbery at a Bealls Outlet on Normandy Boulevard, the police report said.

According to investigators, Herrington, who has a history of robbery arrests, was identified and connected to the string of robberies last month by a burn mark on the center of his forehead.

His next pre-trial hearing will be Jan. 25.
