Man shot to death at Westside mobile home park, suspect in custody

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating what led to the shooting death of a man at a Westside mobile home park on Thursday.

JSO said around 1 p.m. a man in his 40s was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound at the Three Seasons Mobile Home Village on Collins Road. Emergency crews responded and said the man died on the scene.

After a brief investigation and witness descriptions, police gathered a suspect’s description and started searching for the shooter.

The possible suspect was not too far from the scene and taken into custody without incident, according to JSO.

Several witnesses are being questioned.

Police said there is no known motive as the investigation is early but they are working to find out if an argument led to the shooting and what was the relationship between the two.

Brenda Dees said the victim’s daughter tried to access the scene but was denied by authorities. Dees said her instinct was to comfort the woman as she cried.

“To watch them two girls jump out of that truck, especially the daughter, was horrible. And she couldn’t get over there. I don’t know if anybody could stop me if it had been my dad, but they did the right thing because I want to find out who did it,” she said.

If you have information on this shooting, call 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
