GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. – A man and woman were arrested and are facing animal cruelty charges after police found several unhealthy dogs inside their home and at least one of 10 puppies believed to be buried in the yard, according to the Glynn County Police Department.
Police said its investigation started with a report from the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services regarding a child who got a black eye from his father inside a home on Blain Street on Nov. 29.
The investigation revealed the child was assaulted over an issue with a puppy that was inside that home, police said.
Investigators found out eight dogs were living in the home and one of the six adult dogs had two litters of puppies. Police said evidence showed 10 of those puppies may have been buried in the front yard.
When police interviewed a 41-year-old woman who lived in the home, she said that one of the surviving puppies had a broken leg and that none of her eight dogs had received veterinary care in over three years.
On Dec. 1, investigators conducted a search warrant, and Glynn County Animal Control removed the eight dogs from the home, police said.
Officials said one of the puppies had a large, deep cut to the neck and was taken to the vet for treatment.
Investigators also located one of the buried puppies in the yard. When they excavated the remains, they said the skull of the puppy had been “obviously crushed.”
The remains were collected and sent for examination, police said.
During an interview with a man who lived in the home, police said he admitted to punching his son in the eye and strangling one of the puppies to death. He also said he made the children bury the puppy, police said.
The man is facing a charge of cruelty to children in the first degree, eight misdemeanors of animal cruelty, and one felony of animal cruelty.
The 41-year-old woman is facing a charge of cruelty to children in the second degree, eight misdemeanors of animal cruelty and one felony of animal cruelty.
