Florida Highway Patrol says the man and woman were on a motorcycle when they attempted to pass traffic ahead of them on State Road 21 Monday, thus causing the crash.
CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Middleburg man is dead, and a Jacksonville woman is recovering at a local hospital Tuesday after both were involved in a triple-vehicle crash Monday night in Clay County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
According to the FHP crash report, at 6 p.m. Monday, a motorcycle the man and woman were on, was traveling southbound on State Road 21 at the same time a pickup truck was traveling southbound on SR-21 as well. An SUV occupied by a 74-year-old driver and two passengers, was traveling northbound on State Road 21.
The motorcycle “was attempting to pass traffic ahead,” which then resulted in causing initial impact as the motorcycle’s front left side, struck the front left side of the SUV while passing, according to FHP.
Next, FHP says the right side of the motorcycle struck the pickup truck’s left rear. Both the 39-year-old Middleburg man and 33-year-old Jacksonville woman on the motorcycle, were ejected off of it, landing in the road, the report states.
The motorcycle came to final rest in the ditch on the right northbound shoulder, the report states, while the SUV came to final rest on the right northbound shoulder. The pickup truck came to final rest on the right southbound shoulder, according to FHP.
The man from Middleburg was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries.
