Missing person possibly connected to Va. Beach pier crash: Police

Police say they were contacted by a family with a missing relative and it’s a case with “similarities to facts and circumstances” in the pier crash investigation.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A missing person case has “many similarities to facts and circumstances” found in the investigation of the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier crash, but it’s unknown if the cases are connected, police said in a Tuesday morning update.

According to the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD), police were contacted by a family that has a missing male relative. Police said there are indicators that the cases are connected, but it’s unconfirmed that the missing person is associated with the car, which hasn’t been recovered yet. 

Police also said they haven’t been able to tell if the submerged vehicle has a license plate attached.

The VBPD said the Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the identity of the occupant or occupants once the vehicle is recovered. 

Police ended the update by saying, “The ongoing recovery efforts remain focused on reuniting any occupant(s) with their loved ones and maintaining the integrity of the investigation.”
