NWS says EF-0 tornado briefly touched down in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – An EF-0 tornado touched down briefly in the Beacon Lake neighborhood of St. Johns County during severe storms on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

The tornado’s peak winds were 80 mph and it was 125 yards wide at its widest point, according to an NWS preliminary report.

It was on the ground for a quarter mile for about a minute a little after 12 p.m. on Wednesday, according to NWS data.

NWS said the tornado briefly developed and touched down in the Beacon Lake Neighborhood in Northern St. Johns County near U.S. 1.

The tornado caused damage to roofs, fences, and patio furniture from Beam Lane to east-northeast on Strobe Court, ending at Convex Lane.

The NWS report said that on the right-hand side of the track, there was damage from the storm’s downdraft in the range of 60-70 mph.
