Oceanview residents stage what traffic would look like if proposed Chick-fil-A comes to neighborhood

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Saturday, residents of the Oceanway community put on a mock-up of how traffic would flow if the proposed Chick-fil-A restaurant was brought to their neighborhood.

The simulation consisted of residents lining up in their cars and waiting in line as if they were getting an order from the restaurant. Robin Hood is a resident and he organized the simulation. He directed traffic where the entrance would be by allowing one car through every 25 seconds.

“That’s what Chick-fil-A says they can do,” Hood said.

Roberta Smith is a resident and she talked about the multiple concerns a Chick-fil-A would bring to the community.

“We had a ton of cars going around us in the middle of Duval Station and one person got upset at us because we were holding up traffic,” Smith said. “This is just one potential incident of what’s going to happen to our community if a drive-thru restaurant is built here.”

Smith added that she didn’t feel safe as all the cars were going around her.

Tracy Terry is a resident as well and she lives across the street where the Chick-fil-A would be.

“I almost got hit by a car blowing me off the road because I was trying to get to my house and driving into this neighborhood was a complete mess,” Terry said.

Terry added that she was concerned about the traffic and the safety in the neighborhood.

“Not only that, traffic is going back up into the shopping center and there’s going to be a cluster of cars.

The next rezoning meeting will be Feb. 21 at 5:00 p.m.
