JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 55-year-old man from Orange Park was killed while he was walking on I-95 north near 8th Street Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The FHP report indicates the man was walking on the roadway when a pickup truck struck him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup truck driver, a 33-year-old man from Jacksonville, didn’t have any injuries.
The crash that happened shortly before 5 a.m. snarled traffic for hours.
It is illegal to walk on interstates or highway on/off ramps in Florida. Only maintenance personnel allowed by the government can walk along highways.
