JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Friday night was the “Night to Shine” for hundreds of people in our community with special needs as they get their own prom.
Thousands of people were crowned Kings and Queens at the event, which was sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation and other churches, and held at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
They strut their stuff on the red carpet… and some people like Markie had other big ideas for their red carpet moment.
Markie walked down the carpet donning a big fur coat and accompanied by his “bodyguards.”
“Keeping him safe. That’s the mob boss. Kiss the ring,” Markie’s entourage said.
Once the red carpet was finished, people snapped it up, enjoyed good eats and danced the night away.
Vicky Pappas was a volunteer at the event.
“Unbelievable to even describe it. I know you feel the energy but these young people are just so excited and enthusiastic you can’t help but just be overwhelmed with joy too,” Pappas said.
News4JAX’s very own morning show anchor Vic Micolucci and River City Live hosts Jana Angel and Ranec Adamas attended the party as well.
Other volunteers said it brings them joy to see the kings and queens with smiles on their faces.
“T think it’s been absolutely incredible just taking the time to be there for them and giving back. This night is about them so it is just making sure we can do everything possible to make that night special for them,” a volunteer shared.
Roy attends the prom every year and told New4JAX he loves to “boogie-down.”
