Security guard ‘severely’ beaten in head with hammer during robbery at Eastside apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries Sunday night after he was beaten in the head with a hammer during a robbery at an apartment complex on the Eastside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said around 10:15 p.m., they received a report of a person who had been robbed at the Franklin Arms Apartments on Franklin Street.

When officers arrived, they found the man, who was serving as the security guard for the apartment complex, “severely beaten in the head with a hammer,” according to police.

The suspect stole the security guard’s pistol, police said.

The security guard, who’s in his 50s, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Detectives are conducting interviews and gathering evidence to identify the suspect.
