ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The southbound lanes of St. Johns Parkway at State Road 9B in St. Johns County are closed Tuesday morning due to a fatal crash, according to a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, at 2:10 a.m., a sedan driven by a 35-year-old Jacksonville man, was traveling southbound on SR-9B approaching the intersection of St. Johns Parkway. When the car entered the intersection, it struck a curb on the right shoulder, went airborne, collided with a pedestrian bridge and overturned multiple times, the FHP crash report states.
FHP says the man was ejected from the car and came to final rest south of the pedestrian bridge within the wood line. The man’s vehicle came to final rest in a water-filled ditch on the west shoulder of County Road 2209, the report states.
Troopers say the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
First Coast News has a crew at the scene and will provide updates when they are made available.
