Tampa woman throws puppies in dumpster, charged with animal abuse

The woman faces animal cruelty charges.

TAMPA, Fla. — A woman who reportedly threw newborn puppies away in a dumpster after putting them in plastic bags now faces animal cruelty charges, the Tampa Police Department said.

Tampa Police investigators say their investigation began on Nov. 24 after someone found three “barely alive” newborn puppies in a garbage dumpster on North Clark Street. The person reportedly told police at least two of the puppies were zipped up in plastic, Ziploc-style bags.

Investigators say the person rushed the puppies to the humane society for emergency care but it was too late — all three puppies died.

The crime was reported to police and the investigation began.

Surveillance video captured a vehicle that led detectives to 44-year-old Angela Giudice-Burris, the department said. She was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Police say Hillsborough County Animal Control went to Guidice-Burris’ home and took two adult dogs from the property.

“It’s disturbing to see a case of animal abuse in our community,” Chief
Lee Bercaw said in a statement. “We will not tolerate this kind of behavior and will hold those accountable for their actions.”
