The Players Championship, Nemours Children’s Health celebrate partnership with special ceremony

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nemours Children’s Health celebrated its partnership and work with The Players Championship during a special ceremony Thursday morning.

In 2022, The Players Championship donated $2 million to Nemours Children’s Health, Jacksonville to help create a state-of-the-art facility for people with cancer and blood disorders.

THE PLAYERS Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders officially opened in June 2023.

During a news conference on Thursday, The Players Championship and Nemours Children’s Health recognized and celebrated the work they’ve been doing together.

“It’s a wonderful, beautiful open space to allow patients, to allow our staff to provide the care that they’ve always wanted to deliver,” Anderson Collier, Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology at Nemours, said.

Cameron Thackston, a young man who went through cancer treatment at Nemours, said he was able to find comfort in writing a song with his musical therapist, Steven Amburn.

“We started with ‘How do we write a love song?’ Because he had a crush and then we gradually transitioned that to ‘Okay now, how do we read the song about harder topics, such as cancer treatment,?’ and he did a remarkable job,” Amburn said.

The pair adapted a song from a famous Broadway musical, Hamilton.

The lyrics are an artistic expression of what Cameron, might say to the other patients as they come and go for their respective treatments at THE PLAYERS Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

Nemours Children’s Health is the official youth sponsor of The Players Championship.
