Tornado suspected of damaging homes in Jacksonville near Cecil Airport

A strong severe weather system moved through Northeast Florida on Sunday afternoon. Tornado warnings kept being extended as the storms developed and moved through.

The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department said dozens of homes were damaged by a suspected tornado around 6300 Peacock Ridge Road, not far from Cecil Airport.

The National Weather Service said it was “likely” a weak tornado, EF-0 to EF-1 on the Fujita scale, that briefly touched down in the rural neighborhood west of Cecil Commerce Center. EF-0 starts with wind speeds of 65 mph.

Further storm assessment was underway on Monday to gauge how wide the tornado was, and how long it was on the ground, if at all.

The severe weather brought with it hail and high winds. You can see some of the images of Sunday’s storm from our viewers and from our Insiders using SnapJAX.

Several viewers also snapped photos of a brightly colored double rainbow during the severe weather.
