Randy Sharpe Jr. was killed after police say he shot a gun multiple times and pointed it at them.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of a man shot and killed by Jacksonville police last week is asking for answers.
Randy Sharpe Jr.’s family came together for a vigil in his memory Saturday night.
“Last year for Thanksgiving, he came to the house and he had the third turkey,” said Sharpe’s sister, Tamieshia Murray. “He was like, ‘Sis, I was up all night jerking this turkey.’”
Sharpe’s family has fond memories of his love of cooking and singing.
Right now, those memories are overshadowed by the circumstances of his death – shot and killed by police in a parking lot behind a Save-A-Lot.
“Right now I have no feeling,” said Sharpe’s Mother Shanda Davis. “I just feel like something has been ripped away from me.”
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports officers heard gunshots while on patrol in the area of Blanding Boulevard.
When they got to the scene, police say they saw Sharpe run to the back of the parking lot before turning and pointing a gun at officers.
Police say Sharpe had been arguing with a woman in a car, when she got out, he started shooting the gun she kept in her car.
“It’s like they’re covering themselves, but who’s covering the victims and the families,” said Sharpe’s aunt. “Who’s giving us the answers that we need.”
Sharpe’s mother says his body was sent down to West Palm to be buried, but she won’t let him be forgotten.
“He’s going to live on,” said Davis. “It’s silent right now. His voice is silent, but we’re not silent. We want answers, so we’re going to continue until justice is done, until we know what really happened.”
Sharpe’s mother says police told her she’ll be able to see the body camera video in about three weeks.
Sharpe is the 8th person shot and killed in Jacksonville by JSO this year.
That matches the total from all of 2022.
