Why are police on Beach Boulevard in Jacksonville Thursday?

The unidentified person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This is a developing story.

One person has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon following a shooting that has happened near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Central Parkway, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The University of North Florida sent an emergency alert notification to students at 12:16 p.m., alerting them that the shooting occurred near the campus. UNF says at approximately 11:40 a.m., JSO responded to a report of shots fired in the 11800 block of Central Parkway, adjacent to the campus.

The university says that “multiple suspect vehicles were involved” in the shooting and the only suspect information they have at this time, is that two masked individuals were seen fleeing the area east on Beach Boulevard in a dark blue, older model Honda Hatchback. UNF also says that the Honda has gray rims and dark tinted windows as “there is no threat to the campus at this time.”

First Coast News has a crew on the way to the area and will provide updates as soon as they are made available.
